Portugal picked up their second Nations League title after defeating holders Spain 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw in the final at the the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 138th international goal took the final to a shootout in Munich, before Spain forward Alvaro Morata’s miss proved costly and Ruben Neves struck the winning spot kick.
Portugal beat hosts Germany 2-1 in the first semifinal, with Ronaldo scoring the winner.
In the second semifinal, Lamine Yamal scored twice as Spain saw off France in a 5-4 thriller that saw the French almost complete a comeback from 4-0 and 5-1 down to take the game to the wire.
The Spain squad, young and talented, put up a great fight against an experienced Portugal team, but could not do better than settle for a runners-up medal.
Ronaldo secured two UEFA Nations League trophies (2019, 2025) and the European Championship in 2016 for his country.
He also played a role in Portugal’s result on Sunday, scoring the all-important equaliser in the second half, which forced the contest into extra time and eventually, penalties.
PSG and Portugal’s Nuno Mendes received the best player of the tournament award.
