Police warn residents against suspected fraudsters masquerading as foreign currencies dealers

The Police Command in Bauchi has warned residents against suspected bandits masquerading as foreign currency dealers.
This is contained in a statement by ASP Abdulrahman Ahmed, the command’s Acting Spokesman, in Bauchi on Tuesday.
The statement stated that the police were alerted of a new method adopted by the suspected fraudsters in the state to rob gullible persons of their money by luring them to the outskirts of the town.
It added that on Sunday, one Idris Maidawa, 36, of Gwallaga Area of Bauchi was shot dead in Lere junction Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area by suspected fraudsters who made away with his money.

According to the statement, the suspects are yet to be identified but are believed to be part of the bandits involved in the foreign currency saga.

“The attention of Bauchi Police Command was drawn to a new method adopted by fraudsters to rob their victims under pretence that they want to sell large amount of foreign currency.

“A case in point was that of one Idris Maidawa aged 36 years of Gwallaga, Bauchi, who was shot dead along Lere junction in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area by yet to be identified syndicate.”

The statement further stated that it was in view of the Lere incident that it was urging members of the public to be security conscious.

It advised the public not to succumb to any manner of deceit by suspected criminal elements, especially if it involved selling of foreign currencies.

It added that people should not hesitate to report any suspicious person or group of persons to the nearest police station.
