An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court, Kwara State was told on Tuesday how Abdullahi Tanko, 51, and some of his friends tricked and raped to death a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Yetunde Shukurat Idowu.
Magistrate K.A. Yahyah was told by the police prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ologbon, that Idowu was tricked from her residence at Sawmill area of Ilorin to Shoprite before she was gang-raped and killed.
After she was killed, the police received a distress call about noon on May 23, 2015 that they should immediately proceed to Simeon Okedi Street, GRA, Ilorin where they found Idowu in a pool of blood.
Magistrate Yahyah was told that Tanko and members of his gang, who are now at large, raped the deceased violently inside their car at Plot 6, Simeon Okedi Ukpabi Asika Junction, GRA, leading to her death.
The crime scene is Tanko’s residence.
Ologbon told the Magistrate that blood traces from where the deceased was dumped led to Tanko’s residence.
He was arrested immediately.
Idowu’s mobile phone (08132188661) was found with Tanko when he was arrested.
Ologbon told the Magistrate that detectives had been drafted to all the nooks and crannies of the North-Central state to arrest Tanko’s accomplices.
Due to all the facts, he urged the Magistrate to remand the suspect in prison custody to avoid his escape.
Magistrate Yahyah ordered that Tanko be remanded at the Mandela Federal Prison until August 10, 2015 when the case resumes further hearing.
