The Police Service Commission (PSC) says 133,324 applicants have being shortlisted for screening for the recruitment of 6,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said in a statement on Thursday that the exercise would commence on May 7 in the 36 state police command headquarters and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The exercise will start with screening of the applicants’ physical attributes and their credentials.
“Already invitations have been sent to the applicants who are expected to report at the screening venues on days indicated in their invitations,” he said.
Ani said that Kaduna State has the highest number of applicants with 6,962, while Lagos has the least with 1,013.
He said Katsina was second with 6,676, followed by Benue and Niger with 6,474 and 6,409, respectively.
Bayelsa has 1,097, followed by Anambra with 1,117 and Ebonyi with 1,303.
The spokesman said that the commission had deployed its staff to the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to conduct the exercise.
He said that Mr Mike Okiro, Chairman of the Commission, was the National Coordinator for the excercise.
According to him, Mr Musa Istifanus, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission, has warned that the commission would sanction any staff found to be compromising the exercise.
Istifanus further warned the staff against undue influence as their activities would be closely monitored, adding that anybody that has nothing to do with the exercise should stay away from the vicinity of the screening.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently gave approval for jthe recruitment of 6,000 policemen to address the nation’s security challenges.
