The Police Command in Yobe has launched manhunt for a condemned inmate, Abba Hassan, who escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Potiskum, on Oct. 31, 2025.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Damaturu on Saturday.

Abdulkarim said the fugitive, identified as Abba Hassan, is an indigene of Maiduguri, Borno State, and had been sentenced to death before his escape.

He said the command had alerted security agencies, transport operators, community leaders, and vigilante groups within Yobe and neighbouring states to be on the lookout for the escapee.

The spokesman advised members of the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could aid in the re-arrest of the inmate to the nearest police station or correctional service facility.

“Do not attempt to confront or apprehend him on your own. For your safety, immediately contact the nearest police station or call the emergency number 08038452982,” he warned.

Abdulkarim assured the public that efforts were underway to track down and rearrest the fugitive, adding that their cooperation was crucial to ensuring public safety.
