The Police in Lagos on Monday arraigned a 49-year-old car dealer, Ibrahim Yakubu, in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.

The defendant, whose address is not given, is standing trial on two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 2022, at about 10.00.a.m, at No 98, Timmy Jas, Agelaso, Badagry, Lagos.

Ekpo said that the defendant allegedly obtained the sum of N1,150,000 million from  Pan John, the complainant under the pretence of buying one Toyota Corolla car for him.

The prosecutor said the defendant converted the money to his own use by stealing.

The offences, he said, contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. J. Aina granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties should be gainfully employed.

Aina adjourned the case until Aug. 18, for mention.
