Gunmen in the early hours of Friday killed scores of persons in  Ta’agbe community of Miango Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Uba Ogba, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos on Friday.

Ogaba said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, had moved to the scene of the incident.

He explained that 30 houses were completely razed in the area, adding that the commissioner had deployed more personnel to curb further breakdown of law and order in the area.

In his reaction to the incident, Danjuma Auta, the Secretary General of Iregwe Development Association (IDA), expressed concern over the incident .

“Once again the Irigwe nation has to write this statement stating our pain concerning the renewed orchestrated attacks on our people for no reason, having enjoyed some relative peace that lasted for some weeks now.

“This morning gunmen attacked the village of Ta’agbe and as at now we have already established the death of 10 people while the search is ongoing,” he said

Auta called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing the lives and property of the people.

He said that the Iregwe people had embraced peace and would continue to be law abiding.
Meanwhile, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda, said the attack on Ta’agbe village of Miango District in Bassa Local Government Area is another attempt by criminals to disrupt the hard earned peace in the state.

Sanda, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Sabastine Homuk, described  the attack on early hours of Friday that left a number of persons including children killed and houses burnt, as barbaric and unacceptable.

The speaker noted with concern the increasing wave of attacks on innocent and defenceless people in Miango without justification.

He called on security agencies to swiftly apprehend those behind the criminal act.

“The house will not sit and watch innocent citizens and their property destroyed, as such the house will stand in defence of its people, as this act of provocation must stop.

“The house will work closely with the executive and security agencies in addressing the increasing wave of criminality in the the area,” he said.

Sanda sympathized with the victims and families of the deceased and assured them that they would get justice and those behind the act would be unmasked.

The speaker called on the State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant government agencies to intervene and provide succour to the affected people as a result of the attack.

He appealed for calm and urged the people not to take laws into their hands, but rather assist the security agencies with useful information that would reveal the identity of the attackers.
