Plateau elders reject Jang’s PDP governorship candidate

Some political, religious and business elders in Plateau State have rejected the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flag bearer, Senator Gyang Shom Pwajok.
Pwajok is believed to be the preferred candidate of Governor Jonah Jang.
To them, rather than vote for Pwajok on February 28, they will mobilise the electorate to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Simon Bako Lalong.
Some of the elders, who signed a communique after their meeting in Jos, are Air Vice Marshal Abbas Umaru (rtd); Professor Stephen Banfa; Mrs Ruth Penzin; Comrade Tuma S. Dalok; Chief Ndam Gambo; Hon. Sale A. Ayuba and Elder D. N.Fanto.
The communique reads: “There is a general understanding that political power of the office of the Governor would rotate among the three senatorial district of the state. Plateau State as presently constituted, from 1999 to date, has not produced any person from the southern senatorial district as governor, in spite of the huge pool of talented and capable individuals from the zone.
“We note with dismay and condemn the manipulation of the PDP Governorship primaries which outcome did not produce any candidate from the southern senatorial district.
“We are giving our total and unflinching support to the only candidate from the southern senatorial district in the person of RT. Hon Barr. Simon Bako Lalong of the APC. We urge all well-meaning people of the southern senatorial district and the good people of Plateau State to give him total support for equity and justice.
“This forum condemns, in strong terms, the so-called endorsement of the PDP candidate by some self appointed elders purportedly on behalf of the elders of Plateau State and requests all the good people of the state to distance themselves from this group of elders”.
