Pinnick: Emenike now relaxed after terror attack

President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has sent a telephone call to Super Eagles’ forward, Emmanuel Emenike, to assure him that he is safe in his club in Turkey.
This followed a gunman’s attack on his Turkish Super Lig club, Fenerbahce FC bus at the weekend.
The Nigerian striker had told of the horror of himself and team-mates after a gunman fired a shot at the team bus, injuring the driver, as the contingent headed to the Trabzon Airport after a 5-1 Super Lig win over fellow Super Eagle Godfrey Oboabona’s Rizespor FC.
“He was happy I called to extend the sympathy of the NFF and Nigerian football family to him, and to assure him that we are with him at this period and also monitoring the situation with keen interest.
“Such incidents are not good for football,” Pinnick said after speaking with Emenike on Monday, minutes after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Top Scorer arrived in Milan, Italy.
The Turkish Super Lig has been suspended for a week as a result of the incident.
It was the second psychological torment for the Eagles’ forward in weeks, as he was booed by his own fans during the first half of another Super Lig match against Besiktas FC and asked to be substituted.
Emenike has not hidden the fact that he wants out at Fenerbache after he lost the support of the fans and he struggled to score goals.
The armed attack has now been described as “the final straw that broke the camel’s back” as the big striker is more than convinced he needs to quit the Istanbul giants if he were to be back at his best.
“Emenike has been shattered by the attack. It has further convinced him he needs to quit Fenerbache, notwithstanding the fact that he earns a staggering 2.5 million Euros in a year there,” the source informed.
England remains his preferred destination, but there are still no offers on the table for him to consider.
