Pillars ready for Champions League

Kano Pillars technical adviser Okey Emordi has said his side are quite ready for the CAF Champions League campaign after recent participation at the Super Six tournament in Abuja.
The Nigerian champions finished their campaign in third spot on seven points, six points behind winners Flying Eagles in the six-team preseason annual showpiece.
Emordi said the side’s tour of West African neighbours, Ghana is to help the Pyramid City side tighten any loose ends ahead of their scheduled Caf Champions League clash against the South Sudanese side Malakia FC.
“We’re ready for Africa after the Super Six tournament performance against Premier League opponents and two under-age national teams.
“Our performance would’ve been excellent but for the fact that the players underrated the Under-20 and Under-23 teams as it took them time to regain their stride.
“Against the Premier League sides they tried their uttermost best.
“However, we’re still building to attain the 100% mark and that’s why we’re going on a tour of Ghana.
“We’ll certainly have the opportunity to play top sides in warm-up matches to perfect our match strategies.
“Of course, our target is to excel in the continent and not to play second fiddle to any side.
“We’re ready for Africa and will do everything humanly possible to match our words with action,” said the former Enugu Rangers and Enyimba coach.
Pillars are due to leave the nation’s shores on Monday to Ghana for a playing tour before they head back home for the journey to South Sudan to confront relatively unknown Malakia FC.
