Pillars plot Heartland’s fall in Abuja rematch

Kano Pillars will seek to regain top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League when they take on current leaders Heartland FC of Owerri in a rematch that has been fixed for the Old Parade Ground, Abuja on Saturday.

Heartland and third-placed Pillars are on 25 points from 14 matches but the Owerri outfit lead the 20-team Nigeria league table courtesy of a better goals’ difference.

The Week 8 clash between the two top clubs will be replayed after crowd trouble at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, when a policeman shot a fan and Heartland refused to play on for fear of their safety.

Kano Pillars striker Kabiru Umar said that Pillars are ready to claim the full points at stake as he aims to wreck his former club with goals.

“We would have loved this game be played in Kano, but the decision has been made to replay it in Abuja. This is a game we must win to reclaim the top spot. I know it won’t be easy but we will beat them,” Umar declared.

“I am looking forward to getting the goals that will beat my former clubs.”

The first match April 24 was goalless by the time of the fracas in Kano.
