A philanthropist, Alhaji Rufai Bello, has donated a block of three classrooms, toilets and solar-powered borehole to his alma mater, Nurudeen Grammar School, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Bello also pledged N500,000 for provision of furniture to the new classrooms and additional N1 million for the

rehabilitation of the school’s technical workshop.

Speaking at the commissioning, Rufai said he left the school 31 years ago and 25years after his university education, ‘the condition of my alma mater in terms of facilities and infrastructure is very deplorable and calls for urgent attention’.

“I thought it necessary to complement government’s efforts through the Public Partnership Programme towards providing conducive learning environment for the young ones who are the potential leaders of the country. This informed my decision to give back to alma mater my widow’s mite” .

The Principal of the school,Mr. Abdul-Lateef Alabi Bello, who lauded the gesture of the donor, called on well-meaning individuals who have the means to assist those in need to emulate Rufai’s humanitarian initiative.

Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of the Parents’ Teachers

Association [PTA], Alhaji Samhuna Adisa, on behalf of parents, thanked the donor who he described as a worthy Ambassador of the school.

In his response, the Local Inspector of Education for Ogbomoso North Local Government, Mr, Paul Alagbe, described the school “as one of the few selected best in the last West African School Certificate Examination”, despite its challenges in terms of facilities.

Alagbe, who could not hide his happy mood, appreciated the donation and the uncommon determination of the donor who knew the impacts of the school in his life career on behalf of the state government.
