Petroleum tanker drivers relocate to new site at Lagos Airport

yakubu_datiPetroleum tanker drivers operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, have relocated to the new site provided for them by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The relocation order was in line with a directive from the Federal Government (FG) over security challenges in the country.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications of FAAN, Mr Yakubu Dati, on Tuesday in Lagos said majority of the drivers had already relocated to the new site.

“As at yesterday (Monday), not less than 200 tankers were parked at the airport access road, but the trucks remaining at the access road by mid-day were not up to 50, “ he said.

He noted that the relocation was in a bid to sanitise the MMIA and enhance security around the airport.

Dati said that on August 15, the FG gave a 48-hour deadline to the tanker drivers to relocate to the site of their new park.

According to him, this was after a mutual agreement between them and the FAAN.

“The relocation exercise is going on successfully and is being supervised by the Lagos Zonal Council of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, a branch of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG),” he said.
