Lagos socialite, Ms. Ogbulu Chindinma Pearl, accused of distributing kegs of petrol at a party in Lagos recently has been sentenced to imprisonment with option of fines by the Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting at Oshodi.
Delivering a judgement in the criminal case brought against the woman, Chief Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare found her guilty of the three count charge brought against her by the state after she pleaded guilty to the offences.
The convict was initially arraigned on the 14th of March, 2022 for the offence of distributing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as souvenir during her installation party on the 5th of March, 2022 at Havillah Event Centre, Lagos.
The offences, according to the prosecution, violates Section 251(1), 168 (1), 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of Lagos State 2017.
Having pleaded guilty, the Court in its judgement sentenced the defendant accordingly.
The Magistrate ordered her to pay a fine of N15,000 or a three months imprisonment on the first count as well as payment of N500,000 or in alternative be imprisoned for one year for the second count.
The court found her guilty of the third count and ordered her to pay N500,000 or in alternative be imprisoned for a year.
The convict had changed her plea by pleading guilty to the offences against her at the hearing of the suit on 24th March, 2022.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare, held that the prosecution has successfully proven the charge against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt and thereby sentenced and convicted accordingly.
