Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has called on Governor Nyesom Wike to stop insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and the military.
Peterside made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Port Harcourt while reacting to comments made by Wike at a thanksgiving service he held on February 7
He quoted Wike as saying during the service that “If you like bring your Boko Haram soldiers to Rivers state, I will enter INEC office on election day; let me see who will push me out.“
According to Peterside, such a statement is an insult on Mr President and the military.
“Let me draw the attention of Wike to the fact that it is most callous of him to demonstrate such level of denigration of the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian military.
“The military is risking their lives to save the country and its people,’’ he said, adding that it was unfair to refer the military as Boko Haram soldiers.
“I vehemently condemn such display of verbal indiscretion against Mr President and the Nigerian military,“ he added.
Peterside said that the APC also frowned at comments made by the governor that anyone coming to the state to conduct the re-run legislative elections should write his will.
