Peterside to prioritise training of NIMASA staff

The Director- General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, said the management would train all NIMASA staff in various fields of endeavours to boost capacity.
Peterside said this on Wednesday during an ongoing tour by the agency’s management to NIMASA’s office in Port-Harcourt.
He said that training was inevitable, adding that the agency had recorded and attracted more of the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) training in the last six months compared to the previous years.
The director-general said that the management would commence implementation of a Training Schedule to boost the performance.of staff.
Peterside said that the Medium Term Strategy Point of the agency would address all the challenges facing staff in all the Zonal offices of the agency
He said that the agency would focus more attention on the Eastern ports which had more ports than Lagos.
Peterside said the agency would continue to support the oil and gas industry to facilitate maritime trade.
He commended the staff for ensuring maximum working operational standard in their area.
“In the next few weeks, the Eastern ports processes will be automated to wipe off human contact being encountered during operations.
“NIMASA is also upgrading ICT department to improve revenue services and debit recovery platform and there were incentives for staff assisting the agency to recover past debts,” THE News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes him as saying.
The Ports Service Controller of NIMASA in Port Harcourt, Mr Dachi Umar, commended the management for giving an assurance to provide working tools for effective operations in the zone.
Umar said that Port-Harcourt Port had a total number of 66 staff.
He sought the support of the management to provide adequate office accommodation, operational tools and more staff to enable them to achieve their objectives.
