Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has promised to protect the interest of minorities in the state, if he wins the April 11 election.
He made the promise on Friday during his ward-to-ward rally in Krakama, Abalama and Ido communities in Asari-Toru local government.
He said that APC believes in a democratic practice which accommodates all segments of the society.
“You know, I come from a minority place like you, so I understand your problems and know how to provide the right solution,’’ he said.
Peterside commended Governor Chibuike Amaechi for embarking on shore protection and land reclamation projects for coastal communities in the state.
He said that Amaechi’s support for his candidature was a demonstration of equity and justice in the politics of the state.
The APC candidate said all the citizens are stakeholders in the affairs of the state and promised that no one would be oppressed if he was elected.
“I am here with my team to sell the message of hope and prosperity and it is all about protecting your interest as minorities,” he said.
He promised to create jobs for unemployed youths and complete the on-going Trans-Kalabari road, if elected.
Peterside used the occasion to present gift items to widows and thanked them for coming out in their numbers to support him.
Earlier, the traditional rulers of the three communities visited by the APC flag bearer prayed for him and wished him the best of luck in his aspiration to rule the state.
The traditional rulers are: King Iwari Bala of Krakrama, King Atkinson Tom-Tom of Abalama and King Damiete Dokubo of Ido communities.
