Dr Evelyn Ngige, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), has urged members of staff members to abide by the principles of the civil service predicated on stewardship, trust, engagement and professionalism.

Ngige made the call during the 2023 Recognition and Reward Ceremony organized for staff members of the ministry in Abuja.

12 officers were recognized and rewarded for distinguishing themselves in the conduct of their respective duties in the ministry.

Represented by Mr Babagana Alkali, by the Director, Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ngige said that the virtues were driving principles for harnessing human and natural resources for national development.

“As civil servants, we are required to always observe the evergreen ethics of integrity, industry and productivity.

“This is in order to promote and sustain effective and efficient service delivery for the socio-economic development of the nation irrespective of the position we occupy or schedules assigned to us.

“We are expected to be sincere and committed to the process of identifying, prioritizing and facilitating policies, programs and projects that have positive impact on the citizens,’’ Ngige said.

According to her, in this regard, we are to always balance productivity, proper utilization of resources and service delivery to ensure sustained national growth and development.

She said that to achieve efficient resource utilization, officers must be properly equipped to deliver on their respective schedules of duty.

“The management has therefore within available resources, continued to address capacity gaps with the regular conduct of specialized training, carried out both at the departmental and ministry levels,” Ngige said

She further said that in recent past, the ministry carried out series of training for all levels of officers in the areas of personnel management, noting that those engagements enhanced productivity.

Some of the staff who spoke on the ground of anonymity canvassed for more welfare packages that would boost productivity.

They also emphasized the need for regular training and retraining of the workforce toward achieving the ministry’s mandate.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, the Director of Trade Department in the ministry, Mr Suleiman Audu, said that the gesture would further encourage them to put in their best in their daily activities.

Audu urged the awardees and other staff of the ministry to always demonstrate commitment and dedication to duty for optimum performance.
