The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives has called for the reinstatement of Mr Simon Achuba as Deputy Governor of Kogi State.
In a statement signed by the leader of the caucus, Kingsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers), the lawmakers urged the National Assembly, civil society groups and all well-meaning Nigerians to act and save democracy from total collapse.
The lawmakers said that the events leading to the impeachment of Achuba as Deputy Governor were embarrassing and that the entire impeachment process itself was a hoax.
“The time to act is now, and fast we must act; we hereby call for the immediate reinstatement of Mr Simon Achuba as Deputy Governor of Kogi.
“We must, therefore, all rise up to defend democracy, due process and the rule of law and by implication defend the sanctity of our country.
“We also urge the National Assembly, civil society groups and all well-meaning Nigerians to act now and save our democracy from total collapse,” the legislators said.
Achuba was impeached recently and the former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Edward Onoja, who is now the running-mate of the governor in the November 16 elections, was sworn in as Deputy Governor.
