Mr Babatunde Faro, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Akure North/South Federal Constituency, says there is no directive from the party’s national leadership on joining the Wike-led rainbow coalition.
Faro, who said this during a news conference on Monday in Akure, explained that he would abide by any decision taken by the national leadership on the issue.
“On the Wike-led rainbow coalition, we know that we can take a decision to be part of them, but we have not received any order from the national, so we don’t belong yet. For now, nothing of such has happened.
“We, in Akure, are just doing our work. We are focused on winning this election, both in Akure North and Akure South. But on the national front, we wait on the party to give us a policy direction.
“One month or so to the 2027 poll, the party will take a firm decision on any coalition levels or any alliances with any party.
“From then, as a party man, I’m obligated and bound by it, and I will make my own position known.
“Our presidential candidate remains Sandy Ojang Onor and we will be supporting him ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The PDP candidate, therefore, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve its performance and ensure voters’ choices are respected.
He also urged INEC to resolve challenges with INEC Result Election Viewing portal (IREV) and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) encountered in previous elections.
Faro, however, promised open, transparent and accountable representation focused on youth and women empowerment and attracting federal projects to the constituency.
