The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has authorised Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi, the Lagos State Deputy Chairman, to act as the state chairman.

The authorisation is contained in a letter dated Nov. 3, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Umar Bature.

The letter, with reference number PDP/NOS/GF1/Vol.1/009, and titled “Authorisation to Act as Acting Chairman, was addressed to the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state.

Bature said that the decision followed the ill health of the substantive chairman, Mr Muka Popoola.

“Due to the ill health of the substantive Chairman of Lagos State, Muka Popoola, the National Organising Secretary (NOS), on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC), hereby authorises the State Deputy Chairman of the party to act as the chairman with effect from the date of this letter pending when a congress could be organised accordingly.”

According to him, Ogunbiyi’s appointment takes immediate effect from Nov. 3, pending the organisation of a party congress.

The national organising secretary congratulated the acting chairman

The development places Ogunbiyi in charge of the party’s affairs in the state pending the organisation of a congress to determine the substantive leadership.
