Misconduct: Police Service Commission dismisses 10 officers, demotes eight

Nigeria Police Force

Despite the threat by the Jigawa State Police Commissioner, Umar Faruk Idris, to deal with political thugs, there was pandemonium in Gwaram, headquarters of Gwaram Local Government, Jigawa State, at the weekend.
By the time anti-riot policemen moved in to quell the disturbances, the offices of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been torched.
Many vehicles were also destroyed.
A resident told Freedom Online that crisis started when PDP members stormed the town to campaign for their candidates in the February general election. He said APC members attacked them, leading to the violence.
Another source said the PDP members “were abusing APC with songs, and that led to the crisis”.
Eventually, the PDP rally could not hold as thugs, brandishing guns, cutlasses and charms attacked themselves.
Some hoodlums seized the opportunity to loot, snatching bags, mostly from ladies.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdul Jinjiri, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incident.
“We are on top of the situation. All is now calm,” he told Freedom Online.
