Bayelsa: APC, PDP spar over Nov 16 polls

APC vs PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to follow due process in the fight against corruption.
The party made the call in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday in Abuja.
It said that it was on the same page with the Federal Government in the fight against corruption but cautioned that due process must be followed.
It said that the advice was necessary to ensure that the probe was not used as a guise to victimise innocent citizens and curtail the freedom of Nigerians.
The PDP stressed that it was not against the decision of the present administration to probe some past officials of government because they were PDP members.
“The PDP supports the decision of the Federal Government to fight corruption in our country. Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and no citizen, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic affiliation, should be denied access to due process and the rule of law in the process,” it said.
The party said that while the anti-corruption war was being targetted at the immediate past administration, “it should not, by any means, be blind to the impunity of the present leaders of the country.
It stressed that the anti-corruption effort must not be blind to the corruption of the security system resulting in the intrusion by over-zealous operatives into issues bordering purely on politics.
It added that the war must not also be blind to the arrest and detention of Resident Electoral Officers and members of election tribunals in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other PDP states.
It said that apart from the president, who was not associated with any sleaze or corrupt activity, most APC leaders were either governors, ministers and labour leaders who were corrupt.
