The Unity Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has commended members of the party for the peaceful and successful conduct of the ward congress in the state and the overwhelming victory of members of Unity Forum.
In a statement in Ibadan on Monday, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, who is the secretary of the Forum, also commended the members of the Congress Committee led by Mallam Musa Halilu Ahmed for the successful exercise.
The group condemned what he called “executive recklessness” in the state through which unsavoury efforts were made to frustrate the peaceful conduct of the exercise, including the violent attack on the Stakeholders meeting of the party on Saturday.
“It is on record that members of the Unity Forum were the only ones that collected nomination forms from the Congress Committee in accordance with the party guidelines and participated in the ward congress of Sunday May 6, 2018 as directed by the Congress Committee and observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as stipulated by the party guidelines.
“We also condemn in strong terms the distribution of fake nomination forms by some officials of the state government in the desperate bid to frustrate the congress, even when aspirants sponsored by the governor’s group had failed to pay stipulated nomination fee for the collection of the form.
“We wish to alert the good people of Oyo State to the grandstanding of officials of the Oyo State government who are mourning in private over their landslide loss in the congress but pretending in the media that they were satisfied and happy with the outcome of the congress”.
The group assured of its commitment to the ideals of progressive politics and restated its commitment to the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We call on the national secretariat of the party to apprehend members who were found with fake nomination forms and punished according to the laws of the party.
