Otun Olubadan Olaifa dies at 75

High Chief Alimi Olasunkade Olufemi Olaifa, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, is dead.
He passed on on Thursday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State at 11 pm after a brief illness, at the age of 75.
According to a statement by his younger brother, Justice Waheed Kolade Olaifa (rtd), on behalf of the Olaifa family of  Fosunpaja Compound, Idi Aro, Ibadan, the high chief will be buried on Saturday at his residence  at Aba Alamu,, near Alexander Hotel, Apata, Ibadan at noon.
Chief Olaifa, who was third in rank to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, was a distinguished community leader, nationalist and politician who served the nation in several capacities during his life time.
He was the Chairman of the Army Resettlement Centre, Lagos, which was saddled with the rehabilitation and Resettlement of soldiers as the Murtala/ Obasanjo military regime prepared to hand over power and return to the barracks in 1979.
Thereafter, he was Special Adviser on Agricuture to President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic. He was widely credited as the brain behind the flagship Green Revolution programme of the administration, which mobilised the country towards food self sufficiency.
He was also a member and respected elder in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in  Oyo State.
He contributed a lot to the development of Ibadanland. During the Ogunpa flood disaster in the city in 1980, he mobilised urgent relief efforts from government and individuals to bring succour to the victims.
He is survived by wives, children and grand children.
