The Planning Committee of the 2016 Lisabi Festival sponsored by Globacom has announced the late Chief Osundare who was the Nlado of Kemta in his lifetime and one of the six powerful persons in Egbaland as the Hero of the Year 2016.
Confirming the choice, Chairman of the Committee, Chief Rasheed Raji, said the annual visit to the Kemta Kobiti homestead of the Hero would take place in the evening of Thursday, 3rd March, 2016.
He also announced that the Chairman of the Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Chief (Mrs) Ronke Folarin, would serve as Chairman at the Lisabi Festival Seminar on the theme “Creating wealth through Smalll and Medium Scale Enterprises” scheduled to hold in the morning of Thursday at the Centenary Hall, Abeokuta.
Raji said that speakers at the Seminar drawn from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) include Prof. Olufunlayo Adebambo, Prof. Adewale Dipeolu and the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies in FUNAAB, Dr. Olusegun Obadina.
Activities marking this year’s Lisabi Festival sponsored by Globacom commenced on Monday with booming of guns on Olumo Rock by hunters, public mobilisation by women and ‘woro’ dance complemented by sectional horse riding amongst men.
On Tuesday, the final ceremony of the traditional Ayo Game competition as well as the finals of the Secondary School debate and Children social programmes will hold at the palace of the Alake of Egbaland.
On Wednesday, 2nd March, 2016, the Inter School Quiz competition will hold at the Centenary Hall, Ake, while the finals of the Lisabi Football Competition will be played at M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
On Friday, 4th March, the Jumat thanksgiving service will be held at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, while the royal banquet in honour of the Alake of Egbaland sponsored exclusively by Globacom will be held the same day at OK Centre, Abeokuta.
The Grand Finale of this year’s Festival will take place on Saturday,5th March, 2016 at the Ake Palace Grounds while the ceremonies will be rounded off on Sunday, 6thMarch, 2016 with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
Globacom explained that the company is sponsoring the Festival for the sixth consecutive year to immortalise the legacies of Lisabi Agbongboakala and inculcate the values of courage, hard work, valour and honesty in the contemporary youths.
While addressing journalists on the festival last week, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo thanked Globacom for taking the Festival to heights unimagined by Egba indigenes to the extent that Lisabi Festival is now listed on the world map of festivals.
