International business magnate and consummate politician, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has sympathised with the families and nationals of India, United Kingdom, Canada and Portugal over the Air India crash that left several passengers dead.

It was reported that a London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed in Ahmedabad’s Meghani area near the city’s airport Thursday afternoon.

The aircraft, a Boeing Dreamliner, took off around 1.47 pm, slightly delayed from schedule. Officials say it crashed 9 minutes after being given clearance for take-off.

Senator Kalu who serves in the senate of National Assembly expressed his grief over the incident calling it a “heartbreaking and traumatic news to hear.”

In a letter written differently to the government of the four countries through their envoys, the former Governor sympathised with the countries and families.

“I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad, India today. Our special prayers and deepest possible sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected by this appallingly tragic incident. It’s one of the most heartbreaking and traumatic news to hear.

“Kindly convey my words of sincere sympathy and support to the families and dear ones of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured in this catastrophe”, he said

Kalu, while expressing his special and deepest condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire people of India, prayed for as many lives to be saved as possible and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
