Defection to APC: Fani-Kayode a liar, says Umahi

The O’odua Peoples Congress (OPC), on Friday, said the Yoruba should be ready to see many betrayers in the coming days, even as it says people like Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, are abound within the South-West region.

OPC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Yinka Oguntimehin, said the defection of the former Aviation Minister was never a surprise because he had been romancing with All Progressive Congress (APC) stalwarts all over the country.

Oguntimehin, however, urged those who felt disappointed by the ex-minister’s move to be ready for more betrayers in the coming days, saying Nigerian politicians are like Chameleon that often changes colours at ease.

“A few months ago, our leader, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, said in one of the group’s event that in the coming days before the 2023 elections, many people would show the stuff they were made of,

“He said many of our politicians are like a chameleon, they change so often, and that many of those that hitherto claimed to be true Yoruba sons and daughters would shift and change their positions because of cheap political crumbs and position.

“And this prediction is now playing out with the defection of the former minister. Many trusted allies of our race would soon join the train as he had rightly said.

“You can’t trust a politician, Femi Fani-Kayode is just one out of the lot. He has no principle, and he is an agent of the government. So, it is never a new thing to see him defecting from PDP to APC. Fani-Kayode has no measure of integrity and he is a political jobber with no ideology.

“Of what value is his defection to the APC? But the truth is Yoruba should be ready for more of Femi Fani-Kayodes in our midst”

The OPC chieftain also expressed worry at the growing debt burden embarked on by the present administration, lamenting that the $4 billion proposed loan would only add to the economic woes of the country.

“The recent loan request was said to be used for Kano-Niger Republic rail project, and others. Though, the Federal Government had argued that the rail line, when completed, would improve trade among Nigeria, Niger, and North Africa, but it must be stated that rather than improving the economic prosperity of the nation, the burden of the growing debt profile, and the amount incurred in servicing these loans would only add to the economic woes of the ordinary citizens.

“The Lagos- Ibadan road for instance, is a major road in the southwest. It has been under construction for the past 12 years, so also Lagos-Badagry road, yet the Federal Government is concerned with Kano-Niger Republic railway. This is ridiculous, it amount to open mispllacement of priorities and nothing more”, Oguntimehin said.
