Former CAF and FIFA Instructor, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has raised the hope of Nigerians who were convinced that with Egypt’s 5-1 victory over Chad, which put the North Africans on six points and the Eagles four points, it would be impossible for Nigeria to book a ticket to the 2017 Nations Cup.
Onigbinde noted that, Nigeria still has a bright chance of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
He said the four remaining matches on the card will be decisive in Nigeria’s quest to play in Gabon after the team failed to play at the last edition of the Nations Cup.
“The goalless draw in Dar es Salaam still leaves us in the race for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. We have four matches on the qualification calendar, two against Egypt, one each against Chad and Tanzania.
“Results of the four matches will be decisive and overwhelming, too whether we will qualify or not. What happens in those four matches will be the sole responsibility of the handlers of the team.
“I think we are still in the competition just like any other member of the group, everything depends on how we handle the four remaining matches.
“Football is not mathematics that’s why not until the qualification race is concluded no one can claim ownership of the group’s ticket,” said the Caf and Fifa instructor.
The Super Eagles will battle against The Pharaohs of Egypt in March, 2016.
