Some loyalists of Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim in Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been expelled over allegations of anti-party activities.
Ibrahim belonged to the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the PDP during the national crisis of the 19-year-old party.
Three weeks ago, the Supreme Court declared that Senator Ahmed Makarfi is the authentic national chairman of the party.
Those expelled are former factional state chairman, Prince Biyi Poroye, his deputy, Mr Johnson Alabi, the factional secretary, Mrs Yemi Ajonibode and Ademola Genty.
State Chairman, Clement Faboyede, in a statement, said all members of the Sheriff faction have been told to leave the party “until they purge themselves of actions capable of undermining the peace in our party”.
The allegations against the expelled and suspended members included disloyalty, undermining the leadership and anti-party activities contrary to the constitution of the party.
It is believed that Ibrahim, Poroye and members of the Sheriff faction contributed to the loss of the party in the last governorship election in the state.
They filed a suit that led to the recognition of Ibrahim as the candidate of the party instead of Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) recognised by Makarfi and former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
