The lawmaker representing Ondo West Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Tomide Leonard Akinribido, has been suspended indefinitely.

Akinribido was earlier alleged of uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks on WhatsApp “capable of bringing the integrity of the House into disrepute”.
He was also alleged to have abused the Speaker, Oleyelogun Bamidele David, on WhatsApp.
When the allegation was raised at plenary, a four-man adhoc committee was inaugurated by the Speaker, Oleyelogun Bamidele David, to investigate the matter and report back to the House.

Submitting the Committee report at plenary on Tuesday, Chairman of the adhoc committee, Samuel Aderoboye, noted that Akinribido admitted that he authored the alleged uncomplimentary remarks.

Among other recommendations, the committee mandated the House committee of whole to take a collective decision on what punishment should be meted to Akinribido to serve as deterrent to others.

In his ruling under motion moved by the Majority Leader, Olamide Oladiji, and seconded by Adefiranye Festus, Oleyelogun noted that the messages in question were condemnable.

He added that the messages were derogatory and meant to rubbish the integrity of the House and bring members into disrepute, moreso, the affected lawmaker did not show enough remorse for his action.

The Speaker, therefore, ruled that Akinribido should be suspended indefinitely while he should submit all government property in his care to the Clerk of the House.

In a related development, the lawmaker representing Ese-Odo Constituency, Success Torkhuerijo, is to be investigated over his foul language during a media chat.

Chairman, House adhoc Committee on Information, Olugbenga Omole, noted that his language was derogatory, disparaging the House and the Office of the Speaker.

Omole requested that the House should investigate the allegation against Torkhuerijo in order to save the integrity of the legislative arm of government which he described as the bacon of democracy.

In response,a six-man Committee chaired by Samuel Aderoboye was inaugurated to investigate the action of Torkhuerijo and report back to the House.

In the meantime, three adhoc Committees were inaugurated at plenary to take charge of emerging exigencies.

They include adhoc committee on Sports which has Abiodun Faleye as Chairman, Women Affairs and Social Development to be Chaired by Towase Kuti and the adhoc committee on Procurement and Tender to be chaired by Ogunmolasuyi.
