The immediate past Commissioner for Information in Ondo State, Kayode Akinmade, was, on Friday, conferred with South-West Nigeria Gold Award of Excellence for outstanding leadership.
Akinmade, a two-time commissioner, is currently the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2019 House of Representatives election in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in Ondo State.
The event, which attracted major stakeholders from various sectors in the  South-West geopolitical zone, was held  at the Conference Centre of the Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile Ife, Osun State.
According to the organisers of the South-West Nigeria Excellence Awards (SNEA), the award was in recognition of Akinmade’s sterling profile and unblemished record as a media professional and grass roots politician whose passion for issues relating to the South-West, particularly youth empowerment, cultural renaissance and the pursuit of a more equitable federal system of governance for Nigeria, cannot be glossed over.
Speaking on the award, Akinmade expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying that he was pleasantly surprised when he learnt that he had been penciled in for recognition following his modest achievements as spokesman of the Speaker of the House of Reps, two-time commissioner and media strategist.
He said it would spur him on to further make the people the focal point of his engagement in and out of public office.
