Two months to the governorship election in Ondo State, stakeholders in the state All Progressives Congress (APC) are still in a battle-to-the-finish mood.
On Wednesday, they took to the streets to protest the meddlesomeness of the National Working Committee (NWC) in the outcome of the primaries held on September 3 in Akure.
After the exercise, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), emerged the winner.
The Appeal Committee, in its report, declared that the exercise was fraught with fraud and recommended another primaries.
It is believed that the NWC had overturned the recommendations of the Appeal Committee, insisting that Akeredolu will fly the party’s flag on November 26.
Members of the party in Ondo East and West Local Government areas protested against the NWC on Wednesday.
Led by the Chairman of the party in Ondo East, Mr Temitope Akintunde, they accused NWC members of being ignorant of the mood of party members in the Sunshine State.
They gathered at the Ademulegun Road office of the party named Big House in Ondo town for the protest.
They also moved round the town with placards and leaves.
Hundreds of commercial motorcyclists (okada) also joined them.
Inscription, such as “We reject the NWC report” “Let the decision of the Appeal Committee stand” “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Baba Akande are our leaders”, “Bola Ilori is a hero”, “Bola Ilori, thank you for being the voice of the voiceless”, “A candidate that disrespects leaders is an emperor in the making “, “Ondo East and West say thank you all’ were seen in the placards.
Akintunde expressed his anger that his petition, which was favourably considered by the Appeal Committee, was rejected by NWC.
He also described the primary election as a fraud.
“What the NWC is telling us is that there is no difference between the APC and PDP in terms of manipulation of people’s wish”, he said.
