Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has described the late Chief Ojo Maduekwe as “a patriot who displayed uncommon passion and zest in the service of the nation’’.

Maduekwe, a former Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, passed on on Wednesday.

In a condolence letter he personally delivered to the wife of Maduekwe in Abuja, Mohammed expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of the former minister.

A statement issued from the letter by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Mr Segun Adeyemi, was made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

Mohammed said that only recently, Maduekwe was in his office on a friendly visit, “looking his usual sprightly and jovial self’’.

“There is no doubt that his death is a big loss, not only to his immediate and extended family but to the entire Nigerian nation, which he served so well in many capacities,” he rsaid.

The Minister prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed, and for succour to Maduekwe’s wife and the entire family in their moment of grief.

He urged them to take solace in the good name Maduekwe left behind as well as his legacy of service to fatherland.
