The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has uncovered an alleged illegal baby factory in Mowe, leading to the arrest of six suspects and the rescue of two pregnant women and four children.
The operation was carried out at Abaren village, Mowe, following intelligence reports linking the facility to suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Oluborode Opeyemi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
According to the police, officers raided the suspected syndicate location along Toluwalase Street, Abaren village, through Gbarinmole area of Mowe, at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
The rescued pregnant women were reportedly seven and eight months pregnant at the time of the operation.
Police said the four children recovered from the location included two boys and two girls.
The command added that further investigations led detectives to a hospital within the Mowe area, where another victim had reportedly given birth to a baby boy.
The mother was receiving medical care at the hospital, but authorities said the newborn’s location could not be immediately established.
The development led to the arrest of the nurse who attended to the delivery.
The police spokesperson said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a detailed investigation.
She said detectives would work to uncover the full activities of the alleged syndicate and ensure that anyone found culpable faces prosecution.
“The command will establish the full extent of the syndicate activities and ensure the prosecution of every culpable suspect,” she said.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, praised officers from the Mowe Division for their swift response and effective handling of the operation.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s determination to fight human trafficking, child exploitation, illegal adoption networks and other criminal activities across the state.
He also encouraged residents to remain alert and provide useful information to security agencies to support intelligence-driven policing.
