The Police Command in Ogun has arrested a motorcyclist, Godonu Lowe for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to flee with her corpse concealed in a sack.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, made this known on Thursday in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

Odutola explained that Lowe was arrested on Wednesday at about 1:05p.m by the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro following a credible information received from an anonymous resident.

“The Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible intelligence that a man identified as Godonu Lowe of Omolende Village, Idogo, was attempting to flee the community with the body of a woman concealed in a sack on his motorcycle.

“Acting swiftly, police operatives intercepted the suspect and a sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied.

“The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later confirmed to be the suspect’s wife.

“The body bore marks of violence, bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene,” she said.

Odutola said the suspect has been taken into custody while the remains of the victim have been deposited at the State morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, while commending the anonymous informant, urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in crime prevention and detection.

He emphasised that even the slightest suspicion reported to the police could save lives.
