Ogun Government has introduced cashless policy in all state-owned hospitals.
This was made known by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mrs Ajibola Chokor, at a sensitisation meeting with stakeholders on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Mrs. Chokor said the initiative was part of efforts by the state government to ensure financial transparency in the health sector.
She also said the move would ensure accountability in the revenue generation process of government.
Mrs. Chokor added that the system would also reduce revenue leakages and curb t incidents of robbery attacks in hospitals.
She said the state government was already practising the policy in its revenue collection efforts in all government-owned tertiary institutions, adding that this led to an increase in revenue generation by about 20 per cent.
She urged participants to ensure that the policy was well implemented, noting that it would assist government in developing an accurate and sustainable financial model for each hospital.
Dr Oyin Sodipe, the Permanent secretary, Hospital Management Board, assured revenue collectors of sustaining their jobs, saying they should see the policy as complementing their duties.
The Project Director, Ministry of Finance, Mr Gabriel Olukoga, said the policy would assist in book keeping and transaction processing.
He added that the policy had been tested and seen to be secure, safe and fast.
