Former Governor of Ogun State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has restated his commitment to human capital development in transforming the lives of the people.

Daniel, who spoke on Thursday in Ijebu-Ode during the presentation of vehicles to women, youths and support groups of the Gateway Movement, said he would not detract from economic empowerment, prosperity and well-being of the citizens wherever he finds himself.

At the two-in-one event which started at his Obalofin Court, GRA Ijebu-Ode residence, the former governor handed over vehicles, including 11 Toyota Highlander SUVs and three buses, to each of the Women, Youth and Support Groups Coordinators to help with the outreach and advocacy for the activities of the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF).

Many believe the event was not unconnected with Daniel’s senatorial ambition.

About 20 years ago, it will be recalled, GFF was founded as a non-governmental organisation and has been supporting community developnent, empowerment programmes and microcredits throughout the length and breadth of Ogun State.

As part of its community development efforts, the Foundation made some palliative interventions on the Ala-Omu Road, while also providing some medical support to residents as well as contributing for the repairs of electricity transformers in the community.

The Deputy Director-General of Gateway Movement, Hon. John Obafemi, in his remarks at the vehicles presentation, said the event was organised in collaboration with Gateway Front Foundation which has empowered thousands of people across the state.

Obafemi, who noted that a lot of people in the state are very proud of the exploits and accomplishments of Daniel as governor, said his antecedents in governance speak volume and will count

According to him, Daniel intends to run for Senate and will effectively represent Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

He, therefore, urged the people to support the former governor’s senatorial aspiration.

A roadshow motorcade later drove round Ijebu Ode through the Awujale Palace, via Folagbade street through Ejirin road, Ala, Ibido, Igbile, Jobore, Irete to Omu.

At Omu, a mammoth crowd waited for the entourage of the former governor where an ultramodern and well equipped Secretariat office was inaugurated to further promote the activities of the Gateway Movement.

Scholarship awards were also handed over to no fewer than 10 indigent students across the tertiary institutions in the state.
