Ogun council poll: Police advise residents, restrict movement

Ogun State Police Commissioner, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has advised residents to be orderly as they file out to vote in Saturday’s council election.
He also threatened to deal with miscreants who want to engage in acts inimical to election laws such as snatching of ballot boxes, election violence and utterance capable of inciting violence.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, the police boss declared that “restriction has been placed between 0600hrs to about 1500hrs across Ogun State to ensure a seamless voting process”.
The statement reads: “Local government election will hold on Saturday, the 16th of November across the 20 local government areas of the Ogun State.
“Following the announcement and fixed date by the State Independent Electoral Commission, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha psc, has emplaced security strategies around the state to ensure compliance of law and order during the election process.
“Members of the public are required to cooperate with the process and avoid interference or taking laws into their hands and refrain from acts inimical to election laws such as snatching of ballot boxes, election violence and utterance capable of inciting violence.
“Restriction has been placed between 0600hrs to about 1500hrs across Ogun State to ensure a seamless voting process. “Movement has been initiated to control commercial transporters of all sorts to comply with the process.
“Ineligibility by registration or other reasons who may deploy thuggery, intimidation, disruption are advised to stay away from all fields and remain in their homes.
“Flash points have been manned by Police Mobile Force, Tactical Teams, and intervention squad. Plain clothes detectives, have been adequately equipped to clamp down on gun runners. Troublemakers or groups with nefarious intent to cause mayhem will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Politicians are advised to avoid inflammatory and condescending statements that may trigger resentment at polling stations.
“The Ogun State Police Command will only be responsible and play host only to ensuring safety to all voters, and safety of electoral material”.
