ibikunle_amosunOgun State House of Assembly on Tuesday in Abeokuta approved the state government’s request to obtain a N2 billion real estate development loan from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

Minority Leader of the House, Job Akintan, moved the motion for the approval.

Leading the debate, Chairman of the Finance and Appropriation Committee, Ishola Bankole, said the loan would be used to provide low cost houses.

Bankole also said that there was need to upgrade the housing estates in the state, adding that the welfare of the people should be the concern of government.

“Some civil servants are contributing to the loan on monthly basis through the Federal Mortgage Bank and this will assist and facilitate the issuance of this loan from the bank,’’ he said.

He appealed to other members of the Assembly to support the request and contribute their quota to accessing the facility.

Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Mafe Adeyinka, said adequate utilisation of the loan for estate development would boost the welfare of civil servants.

“The state needs comfortable civil servants to get the state to where it should be, hence, there is need to always make them happy,’’ he said.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun had earlier written to the legislators requesting approval for the loan.
