Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has given the management of the College of Education, Igueben, a 90-day ultimatum to get the institution ready for accreditation.
Obaseki, who gave the marching order after an on- the- spot assessment of facilities at the institution, located at Igueben Local Government Area of the state, assured management of the institution of his administration’s support to immediately address some of the teething challenges.

He said the state government would quickly commence the rebuilding of the decayed infrastructure, payment of arrears of salaries and improve the level of funding to the school.

The governor on arrival to the school proceeded on inspection of facilities on ground including ongoing projects sponsored by TET Fund.

The governor, displeased with the infrastructure decay in the school, gave the provost, Prof. Matthew Omo-Ojugo and other management staff of the school, a 90- day ultimatum to ensure the institution was ready for accreditation.

‘’We must get accreditation for this school within the next 90 days. Mr Provost, if we do not have accreditation within the next 90 days, then, I’m sorry, you cannot be a provost anymore.

‘’So, it is now your responsibility that we obtain accreditation for this school’, he said.

He also requested the provost to do an audit of the TET fund projects executed and those being executed in the school.

Addressing members of staff and students of the college, the governor emphasized the importance of teachers in the education sector, saying that functional infrastructure was needed for their training.

The governor also ordered a forensic audit of the finances of the institution.
In his response, the Provost of the college, pledged to ensure the institution was re-positioned for excellence.
On their part, Dr Justin Okonobo, Speaker of the Edo House Assembly, who is from the LGA where the college is located, and the Onogie of Igueben, HRH Ehiziogie Eluojerior I, appreciated governor Obaseki for turning government’s attention to their community.
