Obasanjo Golf Course ‘burnt by hunters’

The Olusegun Obasanjo Gold Club Course in Igbere, Abia State has been razed by fire, former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has confirmed.

The Golf Course is located at Igbere, country home of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Senate Chief Whip confirmed on Tuesday that the Golf Course was burnt by hunters ‘unintentionally’.

The Senator, who was in his country home to celebrate Christmas and new year festivities, said the fire incident happened on Sunday.

“The Olusegun Obasanjo Golf course located in my countryhome caught fire on Sunday.

“Some villagers were hunting in the bush near the golf field and the fire they started extended to the Golf Course,” he said.

He thanked the security agencies and Igbere vigilante group for their prompt intervention which forestalled further damage

“I thank the security agencies and Igbere Vigilante for their prompt intervention, otherwise it could have affected my home.”

He appealed to all golfers who would have loved to come to the Course and play, especially this yuletide, to exercise patience pending the renovation of the Golf Course.

“This is to also inform all golf lovers and players intending to enjoy the season at my OBJ Golf Course to exercise patience until it is fixed,” he concluded on his official Facebook Page.
