In a groundbreaking move, the Nigerian Sports Journalists in Diaspora (NSJID) is set to host the maiden edition of the NSJID Grassroots Award, celebrating outstanding contributions to grassroots sports coverage in Nigeria.

Slated for February 22, this prestigious event will recognise and reward sports reporters from media houses that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to covering grassroots sports across the country.

The award ceremony will take place at the Lagos State Sports Writers Association (SWAN) hall, located within the iconic National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The event will feature four distinct categories:

1. Print Journalism
2. TV Broadcasting
3. Radio Broadcasting
4. Social Media

In a remarkable display of generosity, the NSJID has allocated N2 million to be shared among the winners.

This inaugural event promises to be a watershed moment in Nigerian sports journalism, acknowledging the tireless efforts of media professionals who have worked diligently to promote grassroots sports development in Nigeria.
