The National Sports Commission (NSC) has charged the Super Falcons to stay focused and go for a win when they take on South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Thursday night.

The commission said it was anticipating a positive outcome when the two sides clash at the World cup playoff in Casablanca.

The NSC gave the charge in a statement to newsmen in Lagos by Kola Daniel, Special Adviser on Media to the office of the Director General (D-G), Bukola Olopade.

The 10 times African champions lost to Cameroon in the quarter finals of the ongoing WAFCON, with a chance to qualify for the 2027 World cup via the Inter-Confederation playoff.

Olopade then called on the girls to set aside the disappointment of the quarter final defeat and channel their energy on tonight’s game against the South Africans.

“The Super Falcons remains Africa’s biggest football brand and the pride of the continent, therefore the rare loss to Cameroon should not define them because we know how good they are.

“The girls have brought us tremendous joy over the years and I want them to know that Nigerians are definitely behind them more than ever before, even as they play this crucial game tonight,” he said.

The director general further assured the team of the Federal Government’s unwavering support and confidence in their ability to still qualify for the Women’s World Cup in 2027.

“Speaking the minds of Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, I want to urge our girls that the government is fully behind them and will continue to do everything possible to ensure that they pick the World cup ticket,” he said.
