NPFL: Rabiu Ali relishes active footballing at 43

Kano Pillars’ skipper, Rabiu Ali, is relishing being the oldest player in the new season of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

At 43, Ali is enjoying a good season in the country’s elite domestic football league, Interestingly, Ali is in the top scorer’s chat in the early days of the season.

He scored two goals in Pillars’ 3-0 win of their first match of the season against Ikorodu United last week. With two goals, he is joint to scorer with Enyimba’s C. Jephta and Rivers United’s K Abdulahi.

At 43, Ali marks a remarkable milestone by starting in the opening match of the season against Ikorodu City, showcasing his enduring prowess and leadership on the pitch.

Rabiu Ali’s journey through the NPFL is nothing short of extraordinary. This season marks his 18th year in Nigeria’s top flight, a testament to his exceptional consistency and fitness. Despite the grueling demands of one of the world’s most competitive leagues, Ali remains a crucial figure for the Kano-based team, embodying the spirit of dedication and resilience.

His longevity in the sport not only highlights his remarkable physical condition but also his tactical acumen and experience. For nearly two decades, Ali has been a cornerstone of Kano Pillars, contributing to their successes and maintaining his role as a guiding force for the team.

“This age thing always comes up in the press. I am fit, strong and competitive. I am not thinking of retirement because when the time comes, I will know, but for now, I will keep doing what I like doing best, playing football,” he said.

No doubt, Rabiu Ali is a living legend in the history of the country’s domestic league.

This weekend, precisely on Sunday. Ali will again lead out Kano Pillars in a crunch NPFL fixtures against high-flying Remo Stars.
