The presence of NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, inspired Ikorodu City to their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League victory over defending champions Rangers as they secured a 2-0 win at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.
Obi, who watched the game from the stands alongside the Oga Boys, was cheered by supporters when they spotted him, adding colour to an entertaining encounter.
Ikorodu City took an early lead through Remi Adeoye, who curled home a well-taken free-kick in the eighth minute.
Junior Ikechukwu then doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute as the Oga Boys held on for a historic victory over the Flying Antelopes.
Meanwhile, struggling Enyimba finally picked up their first point of the season after forcing Kano Pillars to a goalless draw in Kano.
The two-time CAF Champions League winners had lost their opening games of the campaign and faced a difficult task against a high-scoring Pillars side on their home turf. However, the People’s Elephant showed resilience to earn a valuable point.
