Non-payment of salary: Plateau workers prevent Jang from inaugurating projects

The Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday stalled the inauguration of various projects by Governor Jonah Jang to protest non-payment of salary arrears to workers.
The governor had been billed to inaugurate a radio station at the Jos Campus of the Plateau State Polytechnic.
The aggrieved unionists also barricaded the entrance to the newly-built Revenue House of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service.
Spokesman for the workers, Mr Paul Dakogal, who is also the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, said: “it is inappropriate for Jang to commission any project.

“Governor Jang did not contribute any resource in facilitating the project, how then can he commission it?

“When we heard that the governor planned to commission a radio station, among other projects in the state, in spite of the workers’ strike, we decided to stop that nonsense.

“He has not paid workers for more than a year; students are at home because of strike, yet he intended to commission projects.”

Dakojal said the union would not allow inauguration of projects, describing the governor’s intention as a desperate move to add a feather to his cap.

He said that for four years, the polytechnic could only produce two sets of graduates.

Dakojal said that the education sector in Plateau had deteriorated since the past eight years.
