The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State has approved the expulsion of Precious Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe over alleged assault on Dr Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer at the institution.
Mr Louis Njelita, Acting Head, Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, disclosed this in a statement on Friday and made available to newsmen in Awka.
“The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, wishes to update the public on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings regarding the recent incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies.
“The actors involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
“After a thorough review by the committee, the act committed by Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies, was deemed a gross misconduct and a violation of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“Based on the committee’s findings and recommendations, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the immediate expulsion of Precious Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” he said.
Njelita urged the affected student to vacate the University premises immediately and return all University property in her possession.
He said that the University management, under the leadership of Prof. Ikechebelu, remained committed to maintaining the integrity of the institution by upholding discipline, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for learning.
The incident that led to the student’s expulsion occurred while she was filming a TikTok video and was approached by the lecturer, Dr Chukwudi Okoye, who requested that she deleted the video.
Precious, however, refused to delete the video and pounced on the lecturer and gave him a bite as shown in the viral video.
