The Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), says it will be extending a hand of partnership to operators in the gaming industry to build a world-class online lottery university.

The Director-General of NLRC, Lanre Gbajabiamila made this known while speaking to stakeholders and operators in the betting and gaming Industry in Lagos.

Gbajabiamila said the university would cater to operators and regulators by enabling them to stay abreast of evolving technology trends, development and best practices in the gaming industry.

He added that it would avail regulators the opportunity to combat sports betting harms through comprehensive education, active monitoring and data-driven research.

” The task of regulating remote gaming has become more intricate than ever before.

“This digital era has a higher appeal than the traditional instruments employed in the gaming industry, demanding a comprehensive re-evaluation of the regulatory frameworks and strategies.

“Amidst this transformation, the commitment to addressing the emerging challenges remains unwavering.

” In light of this, regulatory bodies and stakeholders must adapt to this new landscape to ensure the continued integrity and security of the gaming industry, ” he said.

According to him, there is need to sanitize the gaming industry and put in place measures that would enhance the ease of doing business.

The director-general appealed to all the stakeholders to come together and form a common front adding that the industry had grown in leaps and bounds in recent years.

“The Industry have grown so much that no state can do it on their own, the federal and state must collaborate and that is the reason NLRC have come to stay and continue to be the leader, “he said.

On checking the issues on fraud and unwholesome practices, the NLRC boss said the commission would need the support of other financial monitoring commission to help.

Gbajabiamila stated that existing financial intelligence commission including the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) National Security Adviser (NSA) Office would help adjudicate in forming a document guiding the commission’s operation.
