Nigeria’s female wrestling sensation, Odunayo Adekuoroye of Punjab Royals Club, on Tuesday, defeated Betzabeth Arguello of Jaipur Ninjas Club 16-0 at the ongoing Season 2 of India’s official Wrestling League.
Purity Akuh, Adekuoroye’s personal coach, who accompanied her for the competition, said on Wednesdy that she defeated her opponent by technical superiority.
“I am impressed with the way she tackled her opening match. This will boost her morale and spur her to maintain a winning streak.
“She was amazing and fought according to instructions. It was an explosive game,’’ he said.
Her next match is on Thursday against her former club Mumbia Wrestling Club.
Akuh hopes that Adekuoroye won’t be blocked or stopped by any opposing team.
“Blocking or stopping is when a team see one person from another club as a threat and it’s allowed in the rules to take out the person from participating further in the competition.
“Each team has an chance to stop or block one player you feel can destroy your team. You can choose to block a male or female wrestler.
“We pray we win the coin tomorrow so that Adekuoroye can still remain in the league,’’ Akuh said.
